Day 88: How To Save Php22,500 A Month And Still Drink A Caramel Macchiato

If you’ve been following my journey in this blog, you might be familiar of the “goal” that I am trying to reach. One is setting foot on all the 80 provinces of the Philippines in 6 months, and the other is well, traveling around the world before I turn 30. I’ve been saving almost everyday since I started this blog. That’s how serious I could get. 😀

Roughly, I saved Php22,500 in one month (probably not that impressive, but at least I tried). How?

#1 Know What You Are Saving For

This is a BIG deal. If you don’t know what you are saving for, then it defeats the purpose. For me, I am trying to reach a Php50,000 quota so that I can secure my “travel fund.” This will be used for my #PHL80_23 Project. It’s a motivation, in a way.

#2 Have A Place To Stuff Your Money In

The first resort is a bank. For me, I stuff my money in a sealed envelope and hide it inside my room – yes creepy. If I have extra change in my bag everytime I go home, I immediately stuff it in so that it will be added to the “fund.” Piggy banks work well too. 😛

#3 Don’t Count Your Savings

Counting will make you conscious. It’s better to just save up and check the total after a month or so. A little bit of surprise won’t hurt at all. haha.

#4 50 Peso Habit

Everyday, I separate Php50 from my wallet and place it inside a book – just like a bookmark. You’ll be surprised as to how much you could save in an entire year – that’s Php18,000. hahaha.

#5 Work Hard For It

I grab every opportunity as it passes by. Remember to put your goal first. The rest will simply follow. I have this 75/25 rule where 75% of my monthly earnings will all go to my travel fund and 25% will be spent on anything I wanted. That’s how I have “savings for the unknown” and for a specific trip.

#6 Have Fun!

It’s always a great idea to have fun in everything that you do. If you don’t like cleaning the bathroom for an hourly rate of Php150 (I’m just assuming) then, don’t do it! If you are having fun with Adobe Photoshop and designing, then do what you do best and make it work. haha

Of course, this list will not be complete without REWARDING yourself with a Venti Caramel Macchiato for an awesome job in saving. Hope my tips are useful. I would have included “begging” but this is too crazy. Lol! 🙂

    Agreed!
Simple ways of saving money yet so effective, I’m also doing the same thing but
then somehow it’s really hard to convince yourself to save every single penny
you have especially when you saw something that you truly want to buy.

  7. Yes we can’t really deprive ourselves from those things that we desperately “want” to buy lol 🙂
