Every time I felt  pressure from work, peers, parents, or just plain “stress” and anxiety, I would be thinking of heading down to the nearest beach and unwind. I don’t know if most people do that but I find it very relaxing when I hear the waters gush towards the coast, and the sound of the coconut leaves brushing on to each other. Luckily, I live in a tropical country surrounded by water across every border. Thank God Philippines is an archipelago!

Negros [9.896481,122.421341] is an island south of Iloilo and Guimaras, known as the “Sugarbowl of the Philippines.” Along the coast of Negros Occidental lies beautiful virgin beaches which I am dying to soak myself into. With a long 1 hour and 45 minute boat ride from Iloilo to Bacolod City and a 3-4 hour bus ride from Bacolod City to the Municipality of Cauayan, this picturesque view awaits you!

I know it is a long ride but I enjoy traveling via land and sea. I gave myself a few days to rest my head from all the worries in the city and simply fix myself a drink as I watch the sunset disappear on the horizon. In fact, tourism has recently picked up in the Cauayan Municipality, because of the fine white sand beaches and diverse marine and wildlife.

Currently, there are two popular places that you need to visit if you find yourself in Cauayan: Punta Bulata White Beach Resort is one, which has a spa – known also as a “Nature Lovers’ Paradise.” Danjugan Island Marine Reserve is most recognized for its dive spots and wildlife sanctuary along Brgy. Bulata.

So if you want to relax and have that stress-free weekend, pack your belongings and go to the beach. Near or far as long as you have the time to pamper yourself – it doesn’t really matter! Where do you go when you want to relax?
